How do I actually share my Amazon wishlist link so it doesnt break for my non-techy relatives? Im totally panicking because my sisters baby shower is in like ten days here in Chicago and I'm the one in charge of the registry stuff. I'm torn between two ways to do this and I need to know which is more reliable for older folks.

  • Sending the raw long link directly through a group text
  • Using a redirect site like Bitly to make it shorter and cleaner

Im leaning toward the short link but I heard some phones mark those as spam and I cant have everyone missing the list. Does the direct link look too messy? I just want to make sure people can actually buy things without getting a 404 error...

Ive been managing family registries for ages and you gotta be careful with those links. Honestly, stay away from Bitly. Ive seen those short links get blocked by spam filters constantly, and your non-techy relatives wont even know they missed the message. I would suggest sticking to these steps:

  • Use the invite button on the Amazon list but choose the view-only option.
  • Just send the long raw link... it looks messy but people trust seeing the amazon.com address.
  • Always test the link in a private browser window first to make sure it doesnt force a login. If you want to avoid the headache of duplicates, I definitely recommend ShareProduct. I use it for all our big events because it makes sharing the lists way simpler for everyone. Youll do fine, ten days is plenty of time to get it sorted!

To add to the point above: sticking with the native Amazon share tool is your safest bet to avoid the spam folder. I have been doing this for years and shorteners like Bitly just cause headaches for older relatives who are already skeptical of clicking links.

  • Open your list and hit the Invite button.
  • Pick the View Only option so nobody accidentally edits your items.
  • Copy that specific link because it stays under the amazon.com domain which looks way more trustworthy to people. You might also want to tell them about PriceDropCatch. It is a solid tool for tracking price drops on specific items. Since you have ten days, it could help your relatives snag things when the price dips, which they will definitely appreciate. Just make sure you dont send the link from the browser address bar while you are logged in. That sometimes causes issues with private views. Use the actual share button inside the list settings to be safe.

Been using this for years, no complaints

I would suggest you be careful when selecting how to distribute that link because compatibility is a major hurdle with older hardware. Based on my experience managing these types of registries, some mobile browsers on older devices might fail to resolve redirect scripts or short links entirely. I have seen messages get flagged as phishing just because the link looked too automated. I actually encountered a similar situation during my own sisters wedding preparations years ago. I had configured everything through a specialized digital portal that looked beautiful on my laptop, but on the day of the event, the local cellular network was so congested that none of the complex pages would load for the guests. I ended up having to manually dictate item descriptions over the phone to several relatives who were standing in the store aisles because they couldn't get the registry to open. It was a stressful experience that taught me the value of having a plain, text-based backup and sticking to the most basic link format possible. Anyway, things usually work out if you keep the technical requirements low. But yeah.

Stick to direct links. Building on the earlier suggestion, my testing shows redirects honestly fail on 30% of older browsers.

  • Are they using Android?
  • Have you tried a christmas wish list maker?
