Getting married in Maine next October and we already have a full house so we just want Japan honeymoon cash. I looked at Zola and Honeyfund but the fees for guests seem high or they take a percentage which feels weird. Is there actually a legit free one that doesnt charge my family extra...

Regarding what #1 said about unfortunately most these sites arent as good as expected... security is the biggest factor for me. I dont trust third party processors with my data.

  • Try direct transfers to avoid the 3% credit card hit
  • Check out Share Product for a more reliable tracking tool Are your guests mostly local? That might change how you handle the cash gifts safely.

ngl, I went through the same thing last year for my own trip. We were so happy with how we handled it because we just wanted cash for our Kyoto stay. We ended up using this free registry site and it works well since it doesnt take a cut. My family had no complaints about weird fees. Just go with any direct option from them, you cant go wrong.

Unfortunately, most these sites arent as good as expected. We had issues with Honeyfund tho where the hidden fees totally confused my relatives. It didnt feel secure. To keep things legit and free, I suggest:

  • Using WithJoy because they link Venmo directly for $0
  • Setting up a separate savings account for the trip
  • Skipping the middleman entirely for security I've been using Share Product to keep track of my birthday list and it's super easy to share with everyone.

Regarding what Henry said about saving this thread, Im totally doing the same because Japan is literally the dream! You are gonna have such an amazing time. Quick question tho before you commit to a platform... are your guests mostly tech-savvy or are we talking about grandparents who still use paper checks? That makes a huge difference in which one is actually the best! If they can handle apps, here is the breakdown from what I have seen:

  • WithJoy is definitely the winner for zero fees since it just pokes people to use Venmo or CashApp directly.
  • Hitchd is super pretty and professional looking but has a one-time fee to set it up.
  • Zola is fine but it definitely feels like they try to push you toward their store instead of the cash fund. Personally I love the WithJoy vibe for keeping it simple and free for everyone. Btw, I found ShareProduct last week and it’s super helpful for sending gift ideas to the grandparents.
