So I am moving to a new place in Austin next month and need to buy a bunch of outdoor patio gear and a new TV from Walmart. I have noticed their prices fluctuate crazy fast when you keep checking the same page, probably because of cookies and dynamic pricing, which is super annoying. I want to track these prices completely anonymously so they dont hike the price on me.
Im currently looking at a couple of options. First is GlassIt, which seems pretty easy to use but Im not totally sure how they handle user privacy or if Walmart blocks them. The other option I am considering is setting up Changedetection.io on my home server. It is free and private, but Im worried Walmart's anti-bot system will just block my IP instantly. I also looked at BrickSeek but their free tier is basically useless now and I dont want to pay a subscription just for a few weeks of shopping.
Which of these would work best for keeping my searches totally hidden from Walmart while still getting accurate price drop alerts? Or is there another tool I should be looking at?
> I want to track these prices completely anonymously so they dont hike the price on me. ... Im worried Walmart's anti-bot system will just block my IP instantly. Honestly, I am dealing with the exact same headache right now. I have been trying to track some patio furniture and a soundbar for my setup, and it has been incredibly frustrating. Unfortunately, I had massive issues trying to get any reliable tracking going. Walmart's anti-bot system, which is powered by Akamai, is ridiculously aggressive. If you run changedetection.io on a home server, your residential IP will get flagged and blocked almost immediately. To bypass that, you have to pay for rotating residential proxies, but the cost of those proxy packages quickly eats into whatever savings you would get from the price drop. It is just not financially practical for a one-off shopping trip. I also tried some of the cloud-based tools, but they were not as good as expected. They constantly get hit with CAPTCHAs, leading to missed price drops. Plus, Walmart's dynamic pricing uses advanced browser fingerprinting, not just basic cookies, so even if you hide your IP, they still track your behavior patterns. I am stuck in the same loop of watching prices spike the moment I show interest.
In my experience, running changedetection.io with a residential proxy container is the only way to beat Walmarts anti-bot system without paying for premium services.
I am super satisfied with a free Visualping starter tier.
