So my baby shower is coming up in October and Im trying to get my registries sorted out. I already created separate ones on Amazon and Walmart because some family members only shop at one or the other, but it is a total mess trying to manage both. I want one single link I can send out to everyone.
Im looking at a couple of options right now:
Our budget is pretty tight so we really need to make sure we dont get duplicate items, and we want to keep it 100% free to use. Is there a better app than these two for combining Amazon and Walmart? Or if youve used Babylist or MyRegistry, which one worked better for keeping things synced up without driving your older relatives crazy?
Same boat, watching this
^ This. Also, the sync lag on MyRegistry is definitely real. I tried using it for a family event last year and we ended up with three of the same high-chair because the Walmart API took almost 24 hours to update. It was a massive pain to return them. In my experience, Babylist handles the redirection better, but there is a catch. When your older relatives click to buy an item on Walmart from Babylist, it redirects them to Walmart.com, but then they have to manually come back to Babylist to check the box saying "I bought this." If they forget, you get duplicates. My grandma totally missed that step because she thought buying it on Walmart automatically checked it off. It doesnt. If you want to avoid duplicates on a tight budget, sometimes the simplest tech is actually the safest. Are you set on having the registries auto-sync, or would you be open to a platform where you manually import the lists and guests just mark them off? Also, how many big-ticket items do you actually have on the Walmart side compared to Amazon? If most of the heavy lifting is on Amazon, it might be easier to just link the Walmart registry in the Amazon registry notes and keep it simple.
I went through this exact nightmare last year when planning my own shower. My family is split down the middle between Walmart loyalists and Amazon Prime addicts, so I tried to merge them to keep everyone happy. Honestly, you need to be really careful with MyRegistry. I tried using their sync feature and it was a total disaster for us. The sync lag is real, and my aunt actually bought the same high chair someone else had already purchased because the system didnt update in time. Returning huge boxes when you are nine months pregnant is not fun, trust me. I would suggest just going with Babylist. You cant go wrong with them if you set it up right, but you do need to watch out for their redirection settings. Make sure to toggle off their default store options so it doesnt confuse your older relatives, as it can get kinda pushy about directing people to buy directly from Babylist instead of Walmart. Also, a quick tip: I actually used Share Product to organize all my product links and compare prices before I even built the final registry. It saved me so much headache when trying to figure out which store had the better deal. Just take your time with it and double check those sync settings before you send the link out to everyone.
