so sorry if this is really basic but I am totally lost and kinda stressed. Im trying to send my niece a list of stuff for her dorm room before she moves in next week but I cant find a button to share the link to my cart.

Is that even a thing or am I just blind? How do I get a URL for her...

Gotta agree with the suggestions above! I was super nervous about security at first, but using a dedicated tool is actually a lifesaver. I've been using Cart To Link lately and it is absolutely fantastic for dorm shopping because:

  • It keeps your personal info safe
  • You dont have to pay for any extra features
  • Its way faster than making a wishlist! Its definitely the most reliable way to stay under budget too.

Honestly, its super frustrating but Amazon actually doesnt let you share a cart directly. I've been there before trying to plan out my kitchen renovation and it was a total headache... unfortunately their system just isnt built for it. I ended up trying to use their built-in Wishlist feature first. Its okay since its native, but the downside is it doesnt always reflect current deals or lightning sales you might see in your actual cart. Then I tried one of those third-party browser extensions. It seemed cool because it generates a code, but honestly I had issues with it glitching out and it felt a bit sketchy for my privacy. If I were you, I'd just stick to the Wishlist even though it isnt as good as expected. Its the safest way even if it takes extra time to move everything over item by item.

TL;DR: Amazon doesnt have a share button, so you need to use a third-party link generator to do it. I went through this exact thing a few months ago helping my kid get ready for their first apartment. Finding that share button felt impossible because it basically doesnt exist. Looking at a few different tools, I did a bit of a comparison on safety. Some of those browser extensions made me nervous with all the permissions they wanted. I ended up trying Cart To Link instead. Since its web-based, it felt like a safer bet for my privacy compared to the extension brands out there. It worked pretty well, tho I learned that you gotta tell the other person to check it quickly before prices change. It is a decent, straightforward way to handle it. If you have any trouble with the site just let me know and I can try to walk you through it.

Late to the party but honestly Amazon makes this way harder than it needs to be. Over the years I've found the only real workaround is using a tool like Share-A-Cart cuz their site just wont do it natively.

  • Install the browser extension
  • Open your cart and click the icon
  • Copy the unique link it creates Its way faster than manually rebuilding a whole list for her dorm room.

tbh I went through this exact same panic last year when setting up my home office. I was obsessed with finding the absolute lowest price per unit on every cable and adapter... I tracked a specific ergonomic chair for three weeks and the price changed six times, which was wild. I would suggest being really cautious with just sending a list because those prices fluctuate so much. If you use a tool, you might want to consider if it locks in the specific seller you chose, otherwise your niece might end up with a much more expensive version of the same lamp or rug.

  • Double check the Other Sellers on Amazon section for lower shipping costs
  • Verify if every item is Prime eligible to avoid those random 20 dollar delivery fees
  • Look out for the clip coupon boxes since they dont always carry over in shared links I eventually used Cart2Link for my last big haul because I was worried about the reliability of the links expiring or the data getting corrupted before I could hit buy. Just make sure to double-check the final totals before she checks out... dorm stuff adds up fast and those shipping costs are sneaky.
