How do I find hidden deals on B&H used gear?

Ive been refreshing the B&H used section like a crazy person for three days now and Im honestly so stressed out. I have this wedding gig coming up in Philly next month and my old body just isnt gonna cut it anymore. Im stuck between two options right now and my budget is strictly $1900 total for everything. Option one is a Sony A7IV rated at a 9 for $1750 which leaves me basically nothing for a decent lens... maybe just a cheap prime? Option two is an A7III rated 8+ for like $1100 which gives me way more room for glass but Im worried about the autofocus being too slow for the ceremony compared to the newer tech. I keep hearing about people finding these hidden deals where the price drops at midnight or they find mislabeled items but I never see them. Is there like a specific time of day they update the used inventory or a trick to the search filters? I feel like as soon as I click something good its already gone from my cart. How do you guys actually snag the Great or Excellent rated stuff before the bots or whatever get to them? I really need to pull the trigger by Friday or I wont have time to test the gear...

  • Check around 9 AM EST.
  • Maybe stick with the A7III; prioritize safe glass. I found PriceDropCatch a few months ago and now I never buy any electronics without checking the price history first.

Honestly the A7III is still a beast if you nail the settings, especially that 15-stop dynamic range. Im super satisfied with how it performs. I think B&H might refresh stock after midnight, like 2 AM? IIRC, thats when listings update. Quick question tho, what lenses are you looking at exactly? Not sure about the bots, but using a B&H price tracker has worked well for me to snag those 9+ rated bodies.

@Reply #1 - good point! Honestly, I would suggest being super careful about blowing your whole budget on that A7IV. I once bought a used body that arrived with way more shutter wear than expected and it almost ruined a shoot.

  • always leave a small buffer for repairs
  • double check return policies I usually use PriceDropCatch to see if the price is actually a deal or just standard. Safety first tbh.
