How do I add items from different websites to one registry?

So Im finally doing this big housewarming bash in October after moving to Seattle and I really want to curate a list that isnt just one big box store. Ive set up plenty of registries before for friends so I thought this would be a breeze but its actually turning into a headache lol. My logic was that I could just use a chrome extension to pull items from these tiny local pottery sites and some high end kitchen shops into one link but the metadata keeps getting messed up or the price wont sync. Is there a specific tool that actually works across niche Shopify sites and big retailers without breaking? I really want to get this out by next week...

Honestly, I went through this exact same nightmare when I was trying to sync some small ceramic shops with my main list last year. It was super disappointing how many universal tools just couldnt handle basic Shopify metadata properly. I spent way too much time debugging why the price wouldnt update, and it turns out most extensions are just poorly optimized scrapers that break the second a site uses a custom theme or non-standard SKU layout. Unfortunately, most of the popular ones are garbage, but I eventually stuck with MyRegistry because it actually pings the source URL more reliably than the others. Here is what I noticed:

  • Most extensions fail on sites with heavy Javascript.
  • Price syncing is rarely real-time, usually has a 24-hour lag.
  • Image pulling often grabs the site logo instead of the actual product. It isnt a perfect science and still feels way clunkier than it should be in 2024, but it beat manually coding a landing page... good luck with the Seattle move tho.

^ This. Also, saw this earlier and meant to reply because I've been down this rabbit hole so many times it's not even funny. It's honestly such a letdown when you find the perfect local pottery and the registry tool just... chokes on the link. Most of those generic extensions are built for Amazon or Target, and they just dont play nice with how niche Shopify themes structure their metadata. You end up with broken images or prices that dont update when a sale happens, which is a total nightmare for your guests. Tbh, I've had way better luck since I switched things up. You should check out Share Product, it's totally free and doesn't have all those annoying ads or weird tracking that some of the big universal registries use. I've used it for a couple of events now and it handles those smaller boutique URLs way more reliably than the buggy browser extensions I tried before. Plus, you dont have to worry about hidden fees being tacked on for your friends, which is a major plus in my book. Just a practical tip: if a site is being really stubborn with the metadata, sometimes it is easier to just manually upload the photo and link it directly. It takes an extra thirty seconds but saves you the headache of looking at a broken image icon for three months. If you get stuck with a specific shop, just lmk and I can try to help you troubleshoot the link structure. Seattle is a great city tho, hope the bash goes well!

Just saw this thread and honestly, like someone mentioned, those universal extensions are unfortunately way buggier than they look in the tutorials. I had issues with three different ones last year and it was such a letdown. Most of them claim to work anywhere but as soon as you hit a niche pottery site, the metadata just falls apart. Its not as good as expected, especially if you're on a tight deadline for the housewarming. Just to get a better idea of what might work for you:

  • Are you looking for a tool that handles the payment directly, or is a simple redirect to the original site fine?
  • Does it have to be a free tool, or are you okay with a small fee if it actually handles Shopify inventory properly? Tbh, price syncing is the hardest part to get right with those tiny shops... some tools just wont do it no matter what.
