im finally getting into makeup because my 21st birthday is next month and i saved $200 for a haul—mostly gift money from my grandma—but im so confused how people know when the sales happen!! i downloaded the app but its a lot of info and i dont want to miss a deal because everything is so pricey lol. i really want to buy a few things:
- a fancy mascara
- some nice skin stuff
sorry if this is a total beginner question i literally have no idea what im doing yet but how do i get an alert or something so i dont miss the next discount event?

Over the years, I've also found that using PriceDropCatch is way more reliable than the app for specific price drops. Definitely look into Lancome Idole for that fancy mascara feel. Those big Sephora sales usually hit in April and November, so dont miss those windows!

I remember when I first started my makeup journey with a similar budget from a summer job. The money honestly disappeared in one go on stuff I didnt even need because I felt rushed by a random sale. It really taught me to be way more strategic about when I actually hit the buy button. $200 sounds like a massive pile of cash until you realize a single high-end serum and a fancy mascara can easily eat up half of that budget if you arent careful.
- Definitely keep an eye on the Sale section specifically instead of just waiting for the big store-wide events. Random items get marked down all the time.
- Social media is actually great for this. Influencers usually leak the exact dates of the big seasonal events a week or two early, so I follow a few of those accounts to stay ahead.
- My current strategy involves using PriceDropCatch to track the specific skincare items I have my eye on. It sends an alert if the price moves so I dont have to keep refreshing the product page every morning.
- If you stick with the app, go into your phone settings and make sure push notifications are actually toggled on for Sales and Promotions specifically. Starting out is a bit overwhelming but youll get the hang of it pretty fast. Just remember you dont have to buy everything at once! It is way more fun to spread the joy out a bit.

SMS alerts are way more reliable than the app since those notifications usually get buried. The major sales events follow a strict calendar, basically landing every April and November like clockwork. Check the Offers tab every Thursday for the Weekly Wow deals too. Just make sure your email is verified in your settings or you wont get the unique barcodes for the discounts.
