So I've been staring at my Canon 6D for like three hours now and I'm honestly about to throw it out the window. I'm trying to get ready for my sisters wedding in Vermont next month and I want to take those cool starry night photos but every time I touch the button to take the picture the whole thing shakes and the photo is just a blurry mess. I know I need a remote thingy but I am so lost. My logic was that I could just use the Canon phone app since the 6D has wifi but oh my god that app is the absolute worst thing ever made it just disconnects constantly.

I started looking for a wireless remote on Amazon but now I'm even more confused because there are so many different types. I saw this little one called the RC-6 but then I read a review saying it only works if you stand right in front of the lens? That makes zero sense if I'm standing behind the tripod. Then I saw these big ones with antennas and cables and I don't even know if they plug into my camera or if I need a special adapter. I only have about $30 or $40 left in my budget after buying the tripod so I cant afford anything fancy. Is there a specific one that actually works from behind the camera without me having to wrestle with a glitchy phone app? I just want a button that works...

tbh the canon app is total garbage, i gave up on it years ago. are you planning on doing exposures longer than 30 seconds for those stars? if so, you'll want one with a built-in timer. if not, just grab the Neewer Wireless Shutter Release N3 since it fits your budget. quick tip: if you're still getting blur, try using the 2-second self-timer mode to let the camera settle.

You might want to be careful with IR remotes. Make sure to get a 2.4GHz radio shutter instead:

Late here, what lens are you using? Im happy with my Vello FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Canon. I was terrified of blurry shots, but:

  • RF signal Works great.
