So I finally upgraded to the R6 after years on the 5D series and the frame rate is blowing my mind but my old cards just cant keep up. I was shooting some tests for a wedding I have in Austin next Saturday and the buffer just hangs forever when I do a long burst.

My logic was that any decent UHS-II card would work but now Im seeing V60 versus V90 and the price jump is huge. Im looking to spend around $200 for a pair. I was thinking maybe the ProGrade or Sony Tough ones? If I go V60 will I still hit that wall when shooting raw? Just trying to figure out if V90 is actually mandatory for the 20fps electronic shutter stuff...

Congrats on the R6. Honestly, those 20fps bursts are wild but they definitely murder your buffer if you use slow cards. I would suggest being careful with cheaper V30 cards because they just wont cut it for weddings. You dont necessarily need V90 though, especially if you want to stay under that $200 budget for a pair. V60 is usually the sweet spot for most of us.

  • ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-II V60 Gold 128GB
  • These are super reliable in my experience.
  • Sony TOUGH-M Series SDXC UHS-II V60 128GB
  • Might want to consider these if you are worried about the plastic ribs breaking on standard cards. I use the ProGrade ones and they handle the R6 buffer pretty well, just dont expect to hold the shutter down forever without any pause. Just make sure you get the V60 version at least or youll be standing there like a statue while your camera clears.
