Does anyone know which external monitor actually works with the Canon RF system because I'm totally lost. I just bought an R6 and the little screen on the back is way too small for me to see if I'm in focus when I'm filming my baking tutorials alone in my kitchen. Sorry if this is a super basic question but do I need a special brand or can I just buy any cheap one on Amazon? My budget is like $250 maybe $300 max and I need to get it by next Friday for a big shoot I have planned. I keep seeing things about HDMI cables and some monitors not working with certain settings and its stressing me out...

I've gone through so many budget screens and unfortunately most are a letdown. The color shift on cheap panels is honestly pathetic and makes food look totally unappetizing... super disappointing when you've spent hours on a cake. Dont let it stress you out tho, we'll find something that works. Quick question first: are you filming in a bright kitchen with lots of windows or is it a darker setup? Lighting matters because some screens are basically mirrors in daylight. Quick tip: set your R6 to Clean HDMI output in the yellow menu so you dont see all those annoying camera icons. Also, check out the Portkeys PT6 5.2-inch 600nit 4K HDMI Monitor. It's within your budget and way better than those generic $100 ones. Just grab a solid SmallRig Ultra Slim 4K Micro HDMI to HDMI Cable 35cm too so you don't lose signal mid-shoot.

Cheap screens unfortunately fail. Feelworld F6 Plus 5.5-inch Touchscreen Monitor had signal issues. Just get Atomos Shinobi 5-inch 4K HDMI Monitor for reliability, its color accuracy is way better too.

Like someone mentioned, those budget displays are risky. A cheap screen died on me mid-shoot during a hot kitchen session and I couldnt tell if anything was in focus... total disaster tbh. Make sure to consider:

  • Does your $300 budget include NPF batteries?
  • Are you factoring in a solid micro-HDMI cable? Those hidden costs kinda sneak up on you and might blow your budget completely.
