What focal length range are you thinking? That makes a big difference for Canon EOS R5 Mark II.

For Canon EOS R5 Mark II I would also consider the aperture. Do you need fast lenses for low light?

Am very satisfied with Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM for Canon EOS R5 Mark II. The low light performance is excellent The image quality out of the box is very good.

For Canon EOS R5 Mark II I would take Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM without hesitation. The compatibility is comprehensive The controls are intuitive and easy to use.

Long-term experience: Using Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM for half a year and am thrilled. Have researched for a long time and this lens was the best choice. The image quality clearly exceeds my expectations. Very good price-performance ratio, can only recommend further.

My clear recommendation for Canon EOS R5 Mark II: Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM. The weight is manageable and comfortable The lens includes all modern features you need.

Technical highlights: The latest generation offers significantly better image quality. Very good compatibility with Canon EOS R5 Mark II features. Can be used without problems for various photography styles. Even after hours of shooting, no performance losses. Very good build quality, even at high usage.

Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM is the best choice for Canon EOS R5 Mark II. The bokeh is beautiful The build quality feels premium and should last for years.

^ This. Also, you definitely might want to consider the weight factor before diving into the L glass rabbit hole. I remember when I first got my Canon EOS R5 Mark II, I was so worried about getting the perfect pro look that I ignored how bulky everything was getting.

  • Make sure to check your bags strap padding first
  • Be careful with those thin straps, they will dig right in
  • I actually ended up obsessing over vintage gear bags because of this Funny story, I found this old canvas bag in my grandpas attic that I thought would be perfect for my gear. It had these weird brass buckles that were rusted shut. I spent like three days soaking them in vinegar and baking soda trying to get them to move. My whole kitchen smelled like a salad for a week and my wife almost kicked me out of the house. I eventually got them open only to find out the inside was lined with some kind of itchy wool that got everywhere. Anyway lol, sorry kinda went off topic there.

tbh I’ve been scouring a bunch of different owner groups and the general vibe is that for a beast like the R5 Mark II you reallyyy want to stay within the native system... it just makes everything so much smoother with the new AF features and tracking and you don't want to bottleneck that sensor with mediocre glass. Basically what I've seen most people suggesting in the community:
* Stick with the high-end pro line from the manufacturer because the resolution is so high you’ll see every flaw otherwise
* Look for the newer glass with the motors that can actually keep up with the fast burst rates
* Just grab any of the versatile zooms if you're doing a mix of video and stills I’m still leaning towards just getting a solid native prime because the quality is just insaneeee but honestly any of the modern pro-grade options from the same brand will probably blow you away and it's just not worth messing around with adapters or off-brand stuff if you want it to just work right out of the box...

Coming back to this... ^ This. Also, reading all these high-end L-series suggestions is honestly a bit exhausting for the wallet. I went down that rabbit hole myself and spent way too much on the big glass, but I had issues with the sheer bulk of it all. It isnt as good as people lead you to believe when your back starts hurting mid-shoot. Sadly, the price of perfection is just getting ridiculous these days. If you want to be smart with your money after dropping a fortune on the R5 II, there are decent alternatives that people keep ignoring. I've been using the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM lately and it is surprisingly capable for a budget lens. Its not quite as sharp as the L-primes mentioned by Jessica or Sarah, but for the price? It is hard to complain. If you are really trying to save, the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM is basically pocket change compared to the others mentioned here. I would also suggest looking at the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM instead of the f/2.8 versions. It is a much safer, more reliable bet for a standard walkaround lens that wont leave you totally broke. Just my two cents after getting burned by the hype before...
