Depends on what exactly you want to do with Canon EOS R10. Photography or also video work?

Do you already have a preference? That could influence the lens choice.

Have you thought about the brand? For Canon EOS R10 different brands have advantages.

My tip: Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM is ideal for Canon EOS R10. The price-performance ratio is great The ergonomic design allows for comfortable handling.

i'm also pretty new to this whole camera thing but i spent ages comparing the weights and sizes on paper before i bought my first lens lol. honestly i was really worried about the 1.6x crop factor because it makes everything look more zoomed in than it says on the box so i went with the Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM. it's a tiny pancake lens and only weighs like 120g so it doesn't make the R10 feel top-heavy at all which was a big deal for me starting out and it's actually pretty affordable too. i also really like the Canon RF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM for when i want to take pictures of buildings or trees since it's super wide and has built-in stabilization which helps a lot because my hands are kinda shaky when i'm trying to get the settings right. ngl i'm still learning what all the numbers mean but those two have been way easier to handle than the giant expensive ones people usually talk about so basically i'd start there if you want to keep things light!

> Hello, I'm planning to use it with Canon EOS R10 and need a canon rf lens recommendation. What would you take? Coming back to this because I've had some issues with my choices so far. I started with the Canon RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM but it was honestly a disappointment. I tried taking it to a local aquarium and the narrow aperture made it almost impossible to get a sharp shot without the ISO going crazy. Technically, it just wasnt as good as I expected for a modern lens and left me feeling pretty frustrated with my first few outings. I eventually switched to the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM which is better for low light, but the build quality still feels a bit fragile to me. Ngl I'm always worried I'm gonna break the extending barrel since it doesnt feel very robust. If you want something safer and cheaper to start with, the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM is probably your best bet for a first prime. It's simple and the optics are solid for the price, tho the lack of image stabilization means you gotta have a steady hand. Just my experience after struggling with a few different setups that didnt quite live up to the hype.

Exactly what I was thinking

I can highly recommend Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM for Canon EOS R10! The sharpness is extremely high The build quality feels premium and should last for years.

Honestly, seeing all these L-series suggestions for an R10... that's *total overkill* unless you've got seriously deep pockets. Most of the community reviews and long-term users I talk to actually rave about the Canon RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM as the best all-rounder. It’s super light and basically covers every focal length you’d need for travel or daily shooting without the bulk of a full-frame lens. Tbh, if you want something fast for low light, a lot of us veterans usually point people toward the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM. It’s relatively affordable and fits the compact vibe of the R10 perfectly. But yeah, just to help you out a bit more—what’s your actual budget for this? Are you looking to keep the setup portable, or do you not mind lugging around a heavy pro lens? Knowing if you're into street photography or maybe sports would help a lot...

I can warmly recommend Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM for Canon EOS R10. The autofocus performance is very fast The image quality out of the box is very good.

My personal experience: I've tested various lenses, and Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM was superior in all tests. The image quality remains excellent even in challenging lighting conditions, which is important for professional work. Very good future-proofing through modern technology and reliable performance.

I totally agree with 993_aa about the pancake lens being a game changer for weight. Honestly back in the day i used to lug around this massive kit that weighed a ton and it just ruined the fun. I remember this one trip to a small coastal town where i brought way too much gear and ended up just sitting in a tiny coffee shop the whole time because it wouldnt stop raining. The owner had this ancient collection of vintage postcards from the 50s and we spent the whole afternoon sorting through them. It was actually fascinating how the architecture in that town changed so much after the big storm in 64. I think I spent more money on sourdough toast that weekend than I did on my last lens upgrade... anyhow sorry kinda went off on a tangent there lol
