Honestly i am so frustrated with my current setup right now. I just upgraded to the Canon EOS R6 Mark II last month for a trip to Chicago and i've been stuck using that cheap 24-105mm f/4-7.1 kit lens that came in the bundle and it is driving me absolutely insane. Like the image quality is fine i guess but the aperture is so slow as soon as the sun starts going down i might as well just put the camera away because the noise is just disgusting and i cant get any background blur for portraits. It feels like im wasting the potential of a really expensive sensor by putting budget glass on the front of it.

I really wanted this to be my one-and-done setup for street photography and family stuff but im constantly switching settings just to keep up with the changing light and its ruining the experience for me. I have about $1,600 saved up to fix this mess and i need something before my sisters wedding in three weeks because i promised i would take some candids. I just want one lens that stays on the body 90% of the time so i dont have to lug around a giant bag of glass or keep swapping primes in the middle of the sidewalk. Should i just bite the bullet on the f4 L version or is there something better that covers that middle ground? What is actually the best all-around lens for the R6 Mark II that wont make me regret switching systems?

In my experience, these are the safest bets:

I actually had issues with that Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM too... it's just not as good as expected once you lose the sun. Kinda disappointing for the price tbh. Quick question, is the wedding indoors? If it's a dark hall, f/4 is still gonna be a struggle. You might need to find a used Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM to really fix the noise.

Unfortunately, it was not as good as expected and I ended up with grainy shots. If you want a real fix for $1,600, search for a used Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM. Its the most methodical way to handle low light without carrying a bag of primes.
