Ive been flipping vintage audio gear for like six years now so Im pretty comfortable with the eBay app and checking the sold listings toggle to see what things are actually moving for. But I ran into a wall today. I picked up this really obscure Japanese reel-to-reel deck at a yard sale and when I check the sold comps there is literally nothing from the last 90 days. Like zero results. Usually the 3 month window is fine for my normal stuff but for these rare pieces I feel like Im flying blind.
I need to figure out a price before I list it this weekend because I dont want to leave money on the table but I also dont want it sitting in my garage for six months. I remember people used to talk about Terapeak but I think eBay changed how that works lately or maybe it is just for store owners? Or maybe there is a third party site that archives this stuff longer than a few months.
My main things are:
- Needs to go back at least a year, maybe more for rare stuff
- Id prefer something free or at least very low cost since this is just a side hustle for me
- Needs to show the actual best offer accepted price because that always trips me up
- A web based tool would be better than an app honestly
Does anyone know a reliable way to get that deep history without paying for a crazy pro subscription? I tried some random site I found on google but the data looked super outdated and sketchy...

Wait, what specific model number are we talking about here? Some of those vintage Japanese decks have specific regional variants that change the value a lot. Before you list it, make sure to check if its the 100V domestic version or the multi-voltage export one because that affects your target market big time. I would suggest looking at WorthPoint if you really need to go back several years, though it gets pricey fast. For a free workaround, you might want to consider searching via Google Images using the site:ebay.com filter. It sometimes pulls up cached pages from a year ago that the internal search misses. Also, be careful with Best Offer prices; Terapeak is better now but still has glitches. I started using PriceDropCatch to monitor similar niche auctions in real-time which helps gauge current interest levels even if there arent many recent solds. Just be sure to test those belts thoroughly before you list it as working.

Youre in luck because Terapeak is actually exactly what you need and its totally free now. eBay folded it into the Seller Hub a while back so you dont even need a store subscription anymore. Just go to your Seller Hub on a desktop, click the research tab, and you can search back up to three years. It usually shows the actual price even on best offers which is huge because the regular app sold listings just show the crossed-out asking price which is basically useless for us. I flip vintage gear too and tbh Terapeak is my go-to for those weird one-off items that dont sell every week. The UI is a bit clunky sometimes but it gets the job done and lets you filter by condition too. If you find something so obscure that even three years of eBay data doesnt help, WorthPoint is the nuclear option. It goes back like a decade and covers auction houses too but it costs a fortune monthly so I only use it if I think I have a multi-thousand dollar piece on my hands. For your reel-to-reel deck, stick to the research tab on eBay and youll probably find a match from a year or two ago. Honestly, I've been using PriceDropCatch for a while now and it's saved me a ton on rare collectibles.

TL;DR: WorthPoint is a reliable archive. It goes back years and handles Best Offer data well. Im satisfied and have no complaints about the accuracy. PriceDropCatch is solid for tracking auction bids.
