So my 30th is coming up in November and my family keeps bugging me for a list of what I want but honestly I am so bad at keeping track of things I see during the year. We usually just text each other links but then stuff gets lost in the group chat and my brother ended up buying the same coffee grinder for my dad that my sister already got him last year... total disaster lol. I really need a better system that doesnt cost anything because we are all trying to save money this year with everything being so expensive.
I spent a couple hours last night looking at options and I saw Elfster mentioned a lot but it looks like its really geared toward secret santa stuff where you draw names and I dont really want that. I just want a place where I can dump links from different websites like Amazon or Etsy or even just random local shops here in London and then send a link to my mom and cousins. Giftster also came up in my search but the interface looks like it hasnt been updated since 2005 and I know my younger siblings are gonna complain if it looks too crusty or is hard to use on their phones. I read one review saying Giftster was the best for families but then another person on a forum said the mobile app crashes all the time so I dont know who to believe.
I also looked at just using a shared Google Doc but its so hard to add pictures or see if someone has already claimed an item without everyone seeing who bought what. I want that surprise factor for the person whose birthday it is but the rest of the family needs to know so we dont double up.
I have a few specific things I am looking for:
- an easy claim feature so we dont buy the same thing twice
- ability to add items from any website not just amazon
- totally free to use for everyone
- simple enough for my 70-year-old aunt who barely uses her iPad
Is there anything out there that actually hits all those marks? I need it to be user friendly for both the older generation and my tech-obsessed brother. Does anyone have a favorite they use for year-round stuff or is it all pretty much the same...

Jumping in here, @Reply #1 - good point! That blender situation sounds like a total nightmare lol. I am a nerd for specs and ShareProduct is fantastic because the metadata scraping actually works on random boutique sites! The mobile API is super stable so it wont crash on your siblings.

- Giftster: UI is literally prehistoric It is super light on resources so your aunt's iPad will handle it fine! Love it!

Ngl, we had the exact same coffee grinder issue in my family a few years back. My mom ended up with three identical blenders for her retirement party because everyone thought they were being original... total mess. I spent ages looking for something that wouldnt leak our data or be too confusing for my older relatives who still struggle with basic apps. We finally settled on using Giftpundit and honestly, I have been very satisfied with how it works for us. It is free and we have used it for three Christmases now without any major glitches or weird spam emails. What I like is that it is very reliable. You just copy the link from whatever shop you are looking at—I have added stuff from small boutiques in London and even some Etsy shops—and it just pulls the info in. My 74-year-old dad actually managed to use it on his tablet to mark things as bought without accidentally deleting my whole list, which was a huge relief. It keeps the purchased status hidden from the person who made the list so you still get that surprise on your birthday. It isnt flashy or full of ads like some of the other ones I tried. Just feels safe and straightforward, which is what I have been looking for. Definitely worth a look if you want something that isnt going to crash on your brother or confuse your aunt.
