I just got my Canon EOS R6 and I'm stoked! I'm curious about the essentials beyond the body. Do I really need UHS-II cards for the best performance, and is the EF-RF adapter a must-have for my older lenses? Also, what spare batteries do you recommend? What are your top accessory picks for a new R6 owner?
In my experience, I blew my budget on gear I didnt even need at first... Basically, unless ur shooting 4K or high-speed bursts, UHS-I V30 cards are totally fine and way cheaper than UHS-II. Here's what I recommend:
- EF-RF adapter (huge money saver!)
- Budget third-party batteries
- Standard UHS-I cards Honestly, dont overspend early on... definitely better to save for glass instead!! gl!
Bookmarked, thanks!
Works great for me
Congrats on the R6! its an awesome body. Tbh, you can save a ton of money if you skip the marketing hype. Regarding the cards, unless you are shooting long 4K 60p video or doing massive bursts of sports, the UHS-II speed is overkill. I use the SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB SDXC UHS-I V30 and it rarely hits the buffer during normal shoots. The adapter is basically mandatory if you have any old EF glass. Just get the basic Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R instead of the control ring version to save about a hundred bucks. For batteries, the official ones are crazy expensive. I usually recommend the BM Premium LP-E6NH High Capacity Battery as a backup. Just keep in mind that third-party batteries sometimes wont support the absolute fastest burst rates once they drain a bit, but for 90 percent of shooting, you wont notice. Also, definitely grab a cheap screen protector like the PCTC Tempered Glass for Canon R6 to protect that LCD. Its way cheaper than a repair.
Building on the earlier suggestion, it seems the consensus is to stick with UHS-I cards and get that adapter. Ngl, thats solid advice for saving money, but I tend to be a bit more cautious about where those savings come from. Reliability is everything when you are out shooting and dont want to worry about gear failing.
