Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and got myself a Canon EOS R5, and I’m absolutely loving the image quality so far. However, I’m quickly realizing that this beast is a bit of a power hog and requires some serious storage. I’m looking for advice on the absolute essentials I should pick up next. Should I prioritize CFexpress Type B cards for that 8K video, or are extra LP-E6NH batteries more urgent? I’m also curious if a battery grip or a specific screen protector is worth it. I’ve already spent a lot on the body, so I want to make sure I’m buying the right gear first. What are your top 3 must-have accessories for the R5?
Respectfully, I'd consider another option. I know the first reply mentioned batteries, but unfortunately, Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery is way too pricey at $80. A Baseus Adaman 65W 20000mAh Power Bank is only $55 and lasts way longer! Also, unless ur doing 8K, Lexar Professional 1667x 128GB SDXC UHS-II is like $40 and cheaper than CFexpress. Just be carefull with off-brand chargers, they're not as good as expected!
oh man, congrats on the R5! Honestly its such a beast but ngl, the battery life is lowkey a nightmare. I remember my first real shoot, i was so hyped and then the red battery icon started flashing after like... an hour? it was seriously disappointing and i felt so unprepared lol. anyway, i'm still kinda new to this pro-level gear myself but here is what i've learned the hard way. For your situation, here's what i recommend: * **Extra Batteries:** You highkey need more than one. I picked up two extra Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery packs because the older versions dont actually support the fastest burst rates. Honestly, i still feel like i need a third one sometimes cuz the 8K video just eats them for breakfast.
* **Fast Storage:** If ur gonna do 8K or even the 4K 120fps stuff, you basically have to get a SanDisk 512GB Extreme PRO CFexpress Card Type B. i tried using just fast SD cards at first but the camera just stops recording cuz the buffer is too slow. It was so frustrating watching the camera lock up...
* **Screen Protection:** Seriously, get a protector. i was careless and got a tiny scratch on that beautiful screen within a week... mood ruined. i ended up getting the ULBTER Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Canon R5 and it works great. I havent tried a grip yet cuz it makes the setup so bulky and my wallet is already crying from the body price haha. But yeah, definitely focus on power and speed first!! gl! 👍
Wait really?? Thats actually super helpful. I always thought it was the other way around.
Sooo, late to the party but honestly happy you got the R5! It's a beast, but don't overspend. I'd suggest the Wasabi Power Battery (2-Pack) and Dual USB Charger for Canon LP-E6NH for around $45—solid value compared to OEM. Also, the Sabrent 512GB Rocket CFX Type B Memory Card is usually the best bang-for-buck storage for high-res files. Lastly, a SmallRig Black Mamba Cage for Canon EOS R5 adds protection for way less than a battery grip. Peace!
