Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and upgraded to the Canon EOS R6, and I couldn't be more excited to start shooting with it. Coming from an older DSLR, the jump to mirrorless feels like a whole new world. I’ve already got the RF 24-105mm kit lens, but I’m realizing that there are probably a few 'must-haves' to really get the most out of this body.
I’ve heard that battery life can be a bit shorter on mirrorless compared to my old gear, so I’m looking into whether I should stick with the official Canon LP-E6NH batteries or if third-party ones are reliable enough for a full day of shooting. Also, since the R6 has those dual SD slots and fast burst rates, I’m wondering which UHS-II cards offer the best bang for your buck without bottlenecking the buffer during wildlife or sports shots.
I still have a few EF lenses lying around, so I'm debating between the standard EF-EOS R adapter or the one with the extra control ring. Aside from the basics, are there any specific screen protectors or maybe an L-bracket you’d recommend for landscape work? I have about $500 set aside for accessories right now. For those of you who have been using the R6 for a while, what were the first three things you bought that you now can't live without?
Seconding the recommendation above! Basically, mirrorless bodies are way more power-hungry than your old DSLR because that EVF is always running. To maintain high-speed performance, you really gotta stick with the Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery. I’ve seen cheap clones swell and get stuck in the battery chamber, which is a total nightmare to fix, so I’d be careful there. If you want to save on cards, the Kingston Canvas React Plus 128GB UHS-II SDXC is an awesome, cost-effective alternative to SanDisk that won't bottleneck your buffer. For landscape work, I highkey suggest the SmallRig L-Bracket for Canon EOS R5 and R6 2976. I remember struggling with ball heads for years until I got one—it makes tripod swaps sooo much faster. Also, grab a ULBTER Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Canon R6... honestly, scratches happen fast and ruin resale value. but yeah, enjoy the new gear! peace 👍
1. Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery—OEM is safer cuz there better than risky clones tho.
2. SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC—fast buffer vs slow UHS-I.
3. Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R

I'm pretty new to this too, but I totally agree with the advice about the official batteries. I've heard some third-party ones won't even let you hit the max frames per second, which basically defeats the purpose of the R6. Just curious about a couple things before you buy: * What's your main focus? Like, are you doing mostly sports or maybe just landscapes?
* Are you going to be shooting a lot of video or just stills? I've been doing some research on the card market and the price difference between V60 and V90 speeds is pretty huge right now. I'm not 100% sure if the R6 really needs the V90 stuff for photography, so maybe you could save some money there? I'm always a bit cautious about overspending on specs I might not actually use.
