I just recently made the switch over to the Canon mirrorless system with an R6 Mark II, and I am absolutely loving it so far! However, coming from a DSLR background, I am realizing that the ecosystem feels a bit different. I have already picked up an EF-RF adapter to keep using my old glass, but I am wondering what else is considered a must-have for these bodies.

Specifically, I am looking for advice on things like the best spare batteries that actually support high-speed burst modes or whether a screen protector is necessary for the articulating screen. I also want to make sure I am using the right UHS-II cards to avoid any annoying buffering issues.

For those who have been using the R system for a while, what are the top three accessories you would recommend to someone just starting out?

In my experience ProGrade Digital 128GB SDXC UHS-II V90 Card beats Sony G cards on value. Also get Spigen Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Canon R6 Mark II... better safe than sorry!

Just coming back to this thread, but I went through this last year. Tbh, I learned you REALLY need the official Canon LP-E6NH Li-ion Battery Pack because most third-party ones wont support the high-speed burst mode. I also found that using a SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II Card V90 basically eliminated any annoying buffering lag. I checked out cheaper V60 cards but the V90 is worth it for performance... gl!

TL;DR: stick to official batteries for burst speeds, get any UHS-II cards from a major brand, and definitely grab a basic glass screen protector. In my experience, switching to mirrorless is great but the accessory situation is lowkey a headache. Honestly, I had issues with cheap third-party batteries... unfortunately they just dont support the high-speed burst modes properly. It was such a letdown so basically just get the official Canon ones even if the price is annoying. For the other stuff:

  • Official brand batteries
  • Major brand UHS-II cards
  • Any tempered glass screen protector I usually just buy whatever screen protector from brands like JJC. They're cheap and seriously essential because that screen is a scratch magnet. For cards, I just go with SanDisk or Lexar. Basically, dont cheap out on the power or you wont get the performance you paid for. gl!
