Ive got a massive two-day wedding shoot starting this coming Friday in downtown Chicago and I just realized my 5D Mark IV is gonna be a total pain to handle all day without a proper grip. I usually just swap batteries but this schedule is back-to-back and I'm really worried about missing shots while fumbling in my bag for a fresh cell. Plus my hands get so cramped shooting portraits in vertical for hours on end, especially with my 24-70mm f/2.8 II attached which is already heavy enough as it is. My wrist is already killing me just thinking about it.
Ive been looking at the official Canon BG-E20 and man, the price is just hard to swallow right now since I just spent a fortune on new glass and lighting. I saw the Vello and the Neewer versions online for like a fraction of the cost. People on some blogs say the Vello is fine but then I go to the reviews and see a few horror stories about the shutter button feeling mushy or the weather sealing being basically non-existent. One guy even said it drained his batteries while the camera was off which sounds like a total nightmare. I need something that wont fail on me in the middle of the ceremony but I'm trying to keep my spending under $200 for this specifically if I can.
I also looked at the Meike one because it has a remote, but I dont really need the remote, I just need the reliability. Is the official Canon one really worth the extra $150? Or is there a specific third-party brand that actually feels like the real deal and has a solid build quality that matches the body? I have like two days to get this ordered so it arrives in time for the rehearsal. If the third-party ones are gonna rattle or feel cheap I'd rather just bite the bullet and pay for the Canon one but I'm really torn because I've heard some people say the newer third-party ones are almost identical. What are you guys actually using on your 5D IVs for professional work?
