Im so over these cheap bags and need something tough for my Iceland trip this Friday. Stuck between the Pelican 1450 and Nanuk 910 but I only got $150 to spend. Worried the Nanuk might be too shallow for the R7 body. Which one is better for a rough flight?

I hauled my gear through the Faroe Islands last year and dealt with these exact depth issues. You're right to worry about the shallow profile of the Nanuk 910 Waterproof Hard Case with Foam. The interior depth is technically 4.1 inches, but once you account for the lid foam and the bottom layer, you're left with maybe 3.5 inches of usable vertical space. Since the Canon EOS R7 Mirrorless Camera Body is roughly 3.6 inches tall, it's gonna be a tight fit. You basically have zero room for protective padding on the top or bottom of the sensor area. The Pelican 1450 Protector Case with Foam is a more reliable choice for your Iceland trip because:

  • It offers 6.12 inches of internal depth, which allows for thicker foam layers around the camera body.
  • The automatic pressure equalization valve works well during long flights to prevent that annoying vacuum-seal effect.
  • It provides enough room to store the body and a lens like the Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM without them touching. I remember seeing a baggage handler drop my 1450 off a luggage cart once. The exterior got scuffed, but the gear didn't move because the extra depth allowed for a denser foam layout. If you're hitting the South Coast where the black sand and salt spray are constant, the Pelican seal keeps things clean. Stick with the 1450... the extra depth is functionally better for air travel.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I've been happy with this budget pick:
