So Ive been shooting with the 5D Mark IV since it basically launched and I love the tank of a camera it is but man it gets heavy. I usually just do local gigs or weddings where I have my rolling bag and everything is right there but Im finally heading to Japan next month for 14 days and Im starting to realize my current setup is gonna kill my back if Im walking 20k steps a day in Tokyo and Kyoto.

Ive got my glass sorted (bringing the 24-70 f2.8 and maybe a 50mm prime) but Im totally blanking on the quality of life stuff for a body this size when youre on the move. I ran into this issue last year on a weekend trip to Maine where my neck strap was literally digging into my skin by hour four and my batteries died way faster than I expected because I was using the internal GPS the whole time. Totally forgot how much that drains the juice.

I have about 500 dollars to spend on some upgrades before I fly out. Is everyone still using those Peak Design clips on their backpacks or do they get annoying with a heavy body like the 5D? I tried a cheap knockoff once and it felt like it was gonna snap. Also what about power? I was thinking of just buying like four extra LP-E6N batteries but maybe theres a better way to charge on the go now without carrying a wall brick everywhere?

Also looking for a solid rain cover that isnt just a glorified trash bag because I know it rains a ton over there in the spring and I dont want to risk the weather sealing failing me. I really want to keep the weight down but I also dont want to regret leaving something behind. What are the absolute essentials you guys use for long-haul travel with a full-frame setup like this? Specifically things that make the 5D IV less of a chore to carry around all day...

TL;DR: The Peak Design Capture Clip v3 works well for my 5D Mark IV. Extremely satisfied with how it handles the weight. No complaints at all.

TL;DR: Buy OEM Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery packs for safety and use a Peak Design Shell Camera Cover Medium for rain. Dont risk cheap third-party batteries in Japan; they can swell and damage your body. The LP-E6NH has much better capacity. For rain, the Peak Design Shell is actually durable and wont rip in tight crowds like those cheap plastic sleeves.
