Looking for tripod recommendations for my Canon EOS R3. Shooting mostly wildlife. Budget around $300. What's a solid, reliable option?
Don't overlook the Peak Design Carbon Travel Tripod! I know it gets mixed reviews, but for the R3 it's perfect if you need something portable. The carbon fiber version is surprisingly sturdy and the compact design is great for travel. I've used mine with the R3 + 70-200 f/2.8 without any issues. The built-in ball head works well for most situations, though you might want to upgrade eventually.
For the R3, I'd highly recommend the Gitzo GT3543XLS if budget isn't a concern. It's carbon fiber, incredibly stable, and can easily handle the R3 plus any telephoto lens you throw at it. Been using mine for wildlife photography and it's rock solid even in windy conditions. The leg locks are smooth and the build quality is exceptional. Pair it with a Really Right Stuff BH-55 ball head and you're set for life.
Budget-friendly option here: Manfrotto MT055XPRO3. Aluminum version is solid and way cheaper than carbon fiber alternatives. The R3 isn't particularly heavy compared to DSLRs, so you don't need to go crazy expensive. I've been using this setup for two years with zero complaints. Just make sure to get a decent head - the Manfrotto 498RC2 ball head is a good match.

Unfortunately, my Manfrotto rattled loose. Maybe consider a used Gitzo; heard good things.
Hey! For wildlife with the R3, consider a carbon fiber tripod for weight. Sirui AM-225 is under 2 lbs. I've used one for years; less to lug around!
Used Manfrotto? Save cash. I had issues with new cheapies. Look for a solid used one.
DIY tripod mount? Maybe, but shaky. Used Manfrotto's are decent options if you can find one cheap.
Hey! For wildlife with an R3, seriously consider stability. I'd check out Peak Design tripods. Better safe than sorry with expensive gear, right? A little extra weight is worth it!
Been tracking Gitzo for years. Seems like consistently amazing value retention.
