I recently switched to the Canon RF system with an EOS R6 and a couple of L-series lenses, but my current tripod is way too heavy for long treks. I am looking for a compact travel tripod that can handle the weight of the RF 24-105mm f/4L without wobbling, especially in light wind.
Since I do a lot of hiking, weight is my biggest concern, but I also need it to fold down small enough to fit inside a carry-on bag. I have been looking at some carbon fiber options, but I am overwhelmed by the choices.
Does anyone have a favorite model that balances stability and portability for this specific mirrorless setup?
sooo in my experience, finding a tripod that actually holds an Canon EOS R6 and that Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens without shaking is lowkey a nightmare. honestly most travel legs are garbage for stability but here are two options i have tested:
this has a tiny folded diameter and fits perfectly in a carry-on bag. unfortunately the center column is way too thin and i had issues with vibrations in light wind which was reallyyy annoying... it basically was not as stable as i expected for the price.
it has much better carbon fiber vibration dampening and weighs 1.06kg. it handles the rf gear way better but it is way more expensive and the twist locks are kinda stiff. anyway i guess the gitzo is the better bet for stability... gl!
Seconding the Sirui mention! The Sirui T-025SK Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with B-00K Ball Head is light, but Benro Slim Carbon Fiber Lightweight Travel Tripod is maybe safer for an R6 in wind. gl!
seriously, watch out for center columns cuz they're vibration magnets! i love leofoto carbon fiber or sirui travel legs because they're fantastic for keeping an r6 stable and basically amazing for hiking!!
Same boat, watching this
