Which EF to RF adapter is best for using older lenses?

I just recently made the jump to the Canon mirrorless system with an EOS R6, and while the new RF glass looks incredible, my budget is pretty much tapped out for now. I still have a whole bag of older EF and EF-S lenses, including some heavy hitters like the 70-200mm f/2.8 and my favorite 50mm prime, that I am not ready to part with yet.

I have been looking into adapter options and I am honestly a bit overwhelmed by the choices. Canon has their standard mount, one with the control ring, and even that fancy drop-in filter version. Then I see third-party options from brands like Viltrox and Meike that are nearly half the price. I am curious if the autofocus performance stays just as snappy on those cheaper third-party adapters, or if they tend to have connection issues with older glass.

I am also wondering if the control ring version is actually a game-changer for workflow or if it just gets in the way. Since I do a fair bit of outdoor shooting, weather sealing and build quality are pretty high on my list of priorities too.

Does anyone have experience comparing the official Canon versions against the third-party ones? Which one would you recommend for someone who wants to keep their old lenses performing like new without breaking the bank?

So basically, the thing to understand is that these adapters dont have any glass in them. Theyre just spacers with pins, so ur image quality stays 100% the same. TBH, the AF on my Canon EOS R6 actually feels snappier with my old EF lenses than it did on my DSLR cuz the sensor tech is just way better. Heres what I recommend based on my experience:

Stick with the standard Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R. It is the gold standard for build quality and has that weather sealing u need for outdoor shooting. It feels super solid even with a heavy Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM.

The Viltrox EF-EOS R Mount Adapter is okay for the price, but I found the connection felt a bit loose over time compared to the official one.

IMO the Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R is cool but definitely not worth the extra cash if ur budget is tight. Honestly, the basic Canon one is the way to go. It works perfectly and u wont have to worry about connection errors mid-shoot. gl! 👍
