Saw some rumors about a price drop on the Canon EOS R6 Mark II. Anyone know if this is actually happening? Looking to buy one soon and trying to stay within a $2500 budget.

Honestly im in the same boat trying to justify the cost vs the actual performance gains. I've been staring at the sensor readout speed charts for weeks trying to decide if the rolling shutter improvement is worth the premium right now. It actually reminds me of my buddy Dave who spent six months waiting for a specific price drop on a high-end body a few years back. He had spreadsheets for everything:

  • tracked daily price fluctuations across five retailers
  • calculated the depreciation curve based on release cycles
  • even monitored currency exchange rates for some reason By the time the price finally hit his target, the model was basically obsolete and the new version came out with a better processor anyway. He spent so much time analyzing the data that he missed the entire racing season he wanted to shoot. I would suggest being careful about getting too deep into the spec sheets like he did. Make sure to watch out for:
  • thermal dissipation limits during 4K60
  • bit-depth reduction in high-speed electronic shutter modes
  • voltage sag on third-party batteries I still havent pulled the trigger myself because the data is just so inconclusive right now...

Don't know 'bout the drop, but my R6 II rocks for car shots! Worth every penny, even at $2700!

Heard whispers too! Instead of waiting, consider the Sony a7 III; its dynamic range (15 stops!) is close, and you might find it used around $1700. Or, adapt vintage lenses – tons of character! No complaints with my old Nikkor glass. Just a thought; happy shooting!

Price drops are likely due to the R6 III rumors. Honestly, consider a used R6; they're fantastic cameras. I snagged a low-shutter one for $1800 last year – plenty of camera for the money.

Price drops are tough to predict. Consider Sony Alpha series; they often have aggressive rebates. Research their cashback offers. If you're flexible, a used R6 Mark II might fit your $2500 budget better. Check KEH or MPB for reliable used options. It depends on your urgency.

Hey! No clue on the price drop, but if you're shooting track days (like I sometimes do!), consider a roll cage *before* splurging on a camera! Seriously, safety first! A good Kirk Racing cage is priceless. Think about it... pictures are great, but being around to *take* them is better, right?!

Rumors, yeah. But for $2500, consider a used R6 and tinkering with lenses yourself. More fun, IMO!
