Must-have video accessories for shooting on a Canon EOS 90D?

I just got this Canon 90D because everyone said it was a great hybrid camera but I am honestly so overwhelmed right now. I bought it used for a big family trip to the Grand Canyon next month and I really want to get some nice video of the scenery and the kids but every time I try to film something it looks really shaky and the wind noise is just terrible. I'm looking at all these websites and they list a million things like gimbals and shotgun mics and filters and I have no clue what any of that actually does or if I even need it yet. My budget is kind of tight after buying the body so I probably only have about 350 dollars left to spend on extra gear. I just want to make sure I have the basics so the videos dont look like a complete mess when I get home.

What are the absolute must-have accessories for someone who is just starting out and has no idea what they are doing? Like if you only had a few hundred bucks what would you buy first?

  • maybe a better mic?
  • something to keep it steady?
  • extra batteries maybe?

I'm sorry if these are really basic questions I just feel totally lost looking at all the options out there...

To add to the point above: be careful with that desert sun and wind. The Grand Canyon will wash out your video and ruin your audio in seconds. I would suggest the Deity V-Mic D3 Pro Shotgun Microphone because it handles gusts way better than the cheaper ones. Also, pick up a Tiffen 67mm Variable Neutral Density Filter to keep your footage from being a white mess. TL;DR: Wind protection and ND filters are mandatory for the desert.

  • I gotta disagree slightly on the GorillaPod suggestion. Unfortunately, I've had issues with those flexible legs sagging under the weight of a 90D once you put a decent lens on it. It is honestly super frustrating when your frame just slowly droops while you are filming. Since the Grand Canyon is gonna be incredibly windy, I'd suggest the Deity V-Mic D4 Mini Video Microphone instead because the included deadcat is way better at blocking noise. Also, you definitely need a K&F Concept 67mm Variable ND Filter ND2-ND32. Without one, your desert footage will be totally blown out or look weirdly jittery because you cant control the light. For keeping things steady, the Manfrotto PIXI EVO 2-Section Mini Tripod is a much sturdier choice for a heavy DSLR like yours. It wont let you down when things get hectic with the kids. Let me know if you need more tips on setting that ND filter tho.
