I just got a Canon EOS Rebel T7 and honestly I have no idea where to start with it. I'm going to Italy next month for ten days and I really want to take some good photos but I'm worried I'm gonna forget something important. Right now I just have the camera and the lens it came with in the box. I'm a total beginner so sorry if these are really basic questions.

I have about $200 to spend on extra stuff and I really want to keep it light because I'll be walking all day in Rome and Florence. Here is what I think I might need but I'm not sure:

  • A bag that fits the camera but doesnt scream expensive camera inside to everyone on the street
  • Extra batteries because I heard they die fast when you're taking tons of pics
  • Memory cards... how many should I bring for 10 days? Is 64gb enough?
  • Something to clean the lens because I always smudge things

Is there anything else that is like a must have for a trip like this? I've seen people talking about filters and straps but it's all kinda confusing to me and I dont want to buy stuff I wont actually use...

Late to the party but im satisfied with my Peak Design Slide Lite Camera Strap. The 200lb-rated Dyneema anchors worked well for my 12-hour Florence treks without any complaints...

Regarding what #2 said about 'Late to the party but im satisfied with' that strap, honestly, it's the best advice. I spent a week in Rome with the stock Canon strap and my neck was raw by day two... literally bruised. Never again. Since you want a bag that blends in, I've used these and was really satisfied:

  • Chrome Industries Kadet Sling Bag 9L: This is great for security. Pros: sits tight to your body and pickpockets hate it. Cons: its a bit stiff at first.
  • Domke F-5XB Shoulder and Belt Bag: Low-key canvas look. Pros: looks like a regular satchel and very light. Cons: less padding than modern bags. I'm happy I went with a sling because it's easier to swing around in crowds. Also, get a Tiffen 58mm UV Protection Filter. I smacked my lens against a fountain in Venice... filter shattered, lens survived. Best 15 bucks ever.

Unfortunately, relying on 64gb is insufficient for ten days. I have had issues with storage capacity during travel, and it is quite a disappointment when you run out of space. Use these budget-friendly recommendations to stay prepared:
