Hey! New R6 Mark II owner here. Looking for the best all-around lens for street photography. I'm thinking prime, but open to zooms. What's your top recommendation for under $1000?

Been using the R6 II for a few months now and I'm super happy with the performance. Honestly, I'd just go with Canon native glass across the board. The autofocus integration is so much tighter than using third-party stuff, which really matters when you're trying to nail focus on a moving subject in the street.

  • Get any of the RF primes from Canon
  • Stick to their newer wide-angle options
  • Just find something that fits your budget in their native lineup No complaints here on the sharpness or the tracking speed. Canon really dialed in the communication protocols for this mount, so you're gonna get way better consistency than adapting old glass, tbh. Everything just feels snappy and works well together... it basically makes the shooting experience seamless.

Saw this earlier but just now getting back to it... I went through the exact same struggle when I first got my R6 II! Spent literally weeks staring at MTF charts and obsessing over chromatic aberration in high-contrast urban shots. I eventually grabbed a fast native prime that weighs almost nothing and it totally changed my flow. I took it out to a night market recently and was floored by how the linear motors handled the chaos. Like, I used to miss shots with my older adapted glass because the focus felt a millisecond slow, but with the one I got, it is instant. The way it renders out-of-focus highlights is fantastic! Even wide open, the resolution across the frame is just insane. I learned that being small and low-key is way better for street stuff than lugging around a huge pro zoom. Once you find that balance of portability and speed, youll never go back!

Congrats on the R6 II! Been rocking the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM for years. Seriously underrated! Super sharp, lightweight, and the image stabilization is amazing for street shooting, especially in low light. I love it! Plus, you can get macro shots too. Total winner!

R6 II rocks! Consider Sigma's 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary. Chromatic aberration is superbly controlled; MTF charts are fantastic even wide open! Edge-to-edge sharpness is amazing for street scenes. Its compact size balances nicely. You'll love the rendering! Check out the detailed specs - it's a winner!

Hey! Instead of buying new, check KEH.com for used Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM. Adapt it! Saves cash for other gear. DIY cleaning kits exist for lens maintenance, too.

Forget pricey glass! Grab a used Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM and a simple EF-EOS R adapter. You'll find the lens for around $100, leaving cash for amazing street adventures! Seriously, learn to *see* first. Image quality is fantastic, and you won't baby it. Been rocking mine for years!

Street shooting, safety first! I'd suggest a used Canon 35mm f/2 IS USM. Image stabilization is KEY for low-light situations – reducing blur from shaky hands helps avoid accidents (less editing time!). Be careful out there. Might want to consider a bright-colored camera strap too, for visibility.

Sigma Art primes are sharp! I see used ones around $700. Happy shooting!
