I'm looking to invest in a Canon RF lens specifically for portrait photography. I want something that offers great image quality and beautiful bokeh. What are the best options available? I've heard about the RF 50mm f/1.2L and RF 85mm f/1.2L, but I'm also curious about more budget-friendly alternatives. Any recommendations or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

RF 85mm f/1.2 L USM DS.

The RF 85mm f/2 is a fantastic option for portraits, offering excellent sharpness and pleasing bokeh. For a tighter budget, the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM delivers classic portrait results and represents great value. While the f/1.2L lenses are incredible, the f/2 versions provide much of the same character for significantly less. If you already own a 50mm, the 85mm focal length will give you a distinctly different, and arguably better, portrait perspective.

I've been using the RF 50mm f/1.2L USM for all my portrait work and couldn't be happier. It's more versatile than the 85mm for environmental portraits while still providing beautiful background separation. The sharpness even wide open is remarkable, and the color rendition has that special Canon "pop" that makes skin tones look fantastic. Worth every penny if you can swing it.

I actually prefer the RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM for portrait work. The versatility of being able to adjust focal length without moving allows me to quickly change composition during sessions. The compression at 200mm creates incredibly flattering portraits, and the lens is sharp throughout the range. Yes, it's pricey, but it's essentially three prime lenses in one.
