Does anyone have a good rec for a compact travel tripod for the Canon R50? I've been looking at the Peak Design travel one because it's so slim but man it's expensive and i'm on a tight student budget right now.
I also saw the Ulanzi Zero Y online which seems popular but I'm worried it might be a bit too much for a camera as small as the R50. I'm going to Japan in like three weeks and really need something that fits in a regular daypack for night shots and some self-timer stuff. I just want something that won't wobble in the wind but won't break the bank either...

@Reply #2 - good point! I spent weeks analyzing weight-to-height ratios before my Tokyo trip... I love technical specs!
- Benro Slim Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod: Pro is the 57.6 inch max height and 8.8 lb capacity. Its super light! Love it.
- Joby GorillaPod 3K Kit: Amazing for wrapping around fences in Shinjuku, tho limited height is a drawback. That Benro is fantastic value!

Regarding what #1 said about "I totally feel you on the price tag...", they're spot on. I've tried many budget options over the years and for a light camera like the R50, you dont need expensive carbon fiber.
- SmallRig Selection PT20 Compact Travel Tripod
- Sirui Traveler 5A Aluminum Tripod Either will fit your daypack for Japan without the wobble. Save your cash for the actual trip tho!

I totally feel you on the price tag for those slim travel tripods, it's basically robbery when you're on a student budget. In my experience over the years, you really dont need to drop that much cash just to get something that fits in a daypack for a trip to Japan. I've tried many different setups and for a light camera like yours, the weight isn't as big of a deal as the actual packability.
- Look for legs that fold back 180 degrees to save space.
- Make sure there's a weight hook on the bottom for stability.
- Aluminum is way cheaper than carbon fiber and works just as well. Honestly, Japan has some crazy wind near the coast sometimes, so that hook trick is a lifesaver for those long exposure night shots. It's way better to save your money for all the amazing food you're gonna find over there. You're gonna have a blast tho!
