I'm taking my Canon 5D Mark IV on a two-week trip soon and want to pack light but smart. Besides extra batteries and fast memory cards, are there any specific straps or weather-sealing gear you’d recommend for this body? I'm trying to balance protection with portability. What are your absolute must-have travel accessories for this specific setup?
Respectfully, I'd consider another option. Honestly, I've had issues with bulky gear like the Peak Design Slide Camera Strap mentioned above... it was not as good as expected for packing light. I'd actually suggest the Altura Photo Rapid Fire Wrist Strap for like $15. Also, skip those pricey sleeves; a Sea to Summit Lightweight Dry Bag 8L is way more versatile and cheaper for rain protection. Ngl, it's served me better over the years. gl!
Hey, just found this thread! I actually took my 5D IV to the rainforest last year and learned the hard way that protection is EVERYTHING lol. I mean, the body is a tank but that rear LCD is such a scratch magnet... seriouslyyy. You might find this useful—the DPReview forums have a specific thread on 5D weather sealing that’s a total goldmine for technical specs. Pro tip: grab the Vello Screen Protector Ultra for Canon 5D Mark IV to save ur screen from backpack zippers. Also, skip the bulky cleaning kits and just carry a LensPen NLP-1 Lens Cleaner. It’s tiny and basically essential for field work! TL;DR: Protect that LCD with a hard cover and carry a LensPen for smudges. Lesson learned: Keeping ur gear accessible is way better than burying it in a bag just to keep it safe... anyway, good luck with the trip!
I would suggest: Moisture kills gear. Since 5D IV sealing isnt bulletproof, be careful. • Op/Tech USA Rainsleeve 2-Pack ($10)
• Peak Design Slide Camera Strap SL-BK-3 ($60) Lightweight and essential tbh!
So, catching up on this thread—one thing to consider from a market research perspective is how the accessory landscape for the 5D IV has matured. Most 'pro' travel gear these days is split between modular ecosystem brands (think Arca-Swiss compatible components) and more traditional, legacy-style protection. > What are your absolute must-have travel accessories for this specific setup? Before you commit to a specific brand, are you prioritizing a setup that integrates with a tripod system, or are you strictly shooting handheld? Also, what's your take on the weight-to-durability ratio? With a body that’s basically a legacy tank like the 5D IV, some manufacturers lean into heavy-duty protection that adds *significant* bulk, while others are moving toward ultra-lightweight synthetics to compete with the mirrorless market. Are you trying to keep the total rig weight under a certain threshold for carry-on limits, or is weather-sealing your absolute priority regardless of the footprint?
Works great for me

Regarding what #6 said about "Following this thread" - its definitely worth keeping an eye on because the 5D IV is a total legend, tho unfortunately its starting to show its age when it comes to power efficiency. I have had issues with battery drain recently and honestly, it is not as good as expected for long days in the field anymore. Basically, just go with Canon Brand Batteries and dont even bother with the knockoffs. You really need that consistent voltage for the mirror assembly to cycle properly, and the third party stuff is just inconsistent... super annoying.
