What is the absolute best external flash I can get for my Canon 5D Mark IV right now? I have a wedding gig in Chicago in three weeks and my old gear is acting up. I looked into the Canon 600EX II-RT but the price is honestly insane for how old it is.
People keep saying the Godox V1 is the way to go but then I read that the AF assist beam doesn't even work right with DSLRs compared to mirrorless bodies. It's so frustrating trying to get a straight answer. I need something that won't overheat during a long reception and my budget is capped at $300. Is the name brand worth the extra $200 or is there a better mid-range option...
Unfortunately, that $300 limit makes things tricky. I had issues with Godox AF beams on my 5D before and it was so disappointing... it just wouldnt lock focus right in dark reception halls. You might have to sacrifice some flash power just to get the reliability you need.
