What flash do I actually need for a Canon 5D Mark IV because I am so confused right now. So I just got this camera secondhand from my uncle who used to do pro work but I have literally no idea how to use it yet. I went to take some pictures at my apartment last night and realized it doesnt even have a little flash that pops up like my old point and shoot did? I feel so dumb asking this but do I have to buy a separate thing to go on top? I have a wedding coming up in about three weeks in Chicago and I really want to take some nice photos of my friends but I dont want them to be all blurry and dark like they are now. My budget is probably around $150 or $200 max since I spent a lot on the memory cards. I see all these brands like Godox and Neewer and then the Canon ones that are super expensive and I dont know if the cheap ones will break my camera or something. I just want something easy that I dont have to mess with too much while people are dancing and stuff... does anyone have a recommendation for a total beginner who just wants it to work?

To add to the point above, AA recycle times are unfortunately slow. The Godox V860III-C TTL Li-ion Flash for Canon is technically superior with its 7.2V/2600mAh battery providing 1.5s full-power recycling.

I remember exactly how you feel... my first pro-level body was a 5D Mark II and I was so confused why there was no pop-up flash. I actually panicked thinking mine was broken or missing a piece lol. For a wedding in Chicago, you are gonna have a blast with that 5D IV because it is a beast in low light, but you definitely need that extra light source. I have been using the Godox V860III-C TTL Li-ion Flash for Canon for a few years now and honestly I could not be happier with it. It is super reliable and definitely wont fry your camera or anything like that. The main reason I am so satisfied with this one for weddings is the lithium battery. Seriously, chasing around AA batteries in a dark reception hall is a total nightmare. I remember one wedding where I was fumbling with a bag of loose batteries while the couple was doing their first dance... never again. With this unit, you just charge it up and it lasts the whole night. Plus, it has TTL mode which basically lets the camera and flash talk to each other to figure out the power automatically. It is a lifesaver when you are a beginner because you can just focus on the people dancing instead of buttons. One quick tip tho: dont point the flash straight at your friends or they will look like deer in headlights. Point the head of the flash up at the ceiling. It bounces the light and makes everything look soft and professional. I was so happy the first time I tried that, it really changed my photos overnight.

Ngl you should be careful with those super cheap brands on a high-end body like that. For a wedding, reliability is everything. I would suggest the Godox TT685II-C TTL Flash for Canon. It has TTL so it handles the exposure automatically while people are dancing. It fits your budget and wont fry your hot shoe like some generic ones might. Just make sure you get the Canon version.
