Which travel tripod should I get for my Canon M5 before my Japan trip next month? Im stuck between the Manfrotto Pixi Evo and the Benro Slim Carbon. The Pixi is super tiny but might be too short for landscapes while the Benro seems sturdier but takes up more bag space. Which one handles the M5 weight better?...

Honestly, I had issues with both of those for my M5. The Pixi is just way too short for decent framing, and that Benro felt surprisingly flimsy for carbon fiber. Here is what I recommend instead:

If you want peak performance, get the Peak Design Travel Tripod Carbon Fiber!

  • 20lb max load capacity
  • Super compact 3.25-inch diameter
  • Weighs only 2.81 lbs Love it for travel!

@Reply #1 - good point! The Pixi is way too short, and I actually had major issues with that Benro Slim myself. Bought it for a trip to Italy and it was a total disappointment. The legs flexed in light wind and my shots were all blurry. Not what you want for a trip to Japan. Since the Peak Design is super expensive, here is a practical alternative. I ended up switching to the MeFOTO RoadTrip S Travel Tripod Aluminum. It is not as light as carbon, but it is solid. Here is why it works for the M5:

  • Folds down to 13 inches so it fits inside a daypack
  • Converts into a monopod, which is huge because many Tokyo temples ban full tripods
  • The ball head actually locks tight and does not sag Cost-wise, it is way friendlier on the wallet too.
