Which universal wishlist app is better than Amazon for gift lists?

Ive been using Amazon for my family gift lists for like 6 years now but honestly Im totally over it. The biggest issue is that it only tracks stuff from their own site and half the time my relatives end up buying the wrong version of something because they just search on Amazon instead of using the link I actually sent. Its driving me nuts. My birthday is coming up in about 3 weeks and I really want to curate a list that actually works for everyone regardless of where they shop.

Im looking for something that hits these points:

  • browser extension that actually works reliably on niche websites
  • lets me categorize things so I dont just have a massive pile of random junk
  • easy for non tech savvy relatives to navigate without needing an account
  • mobile app that syncs fast

I have zero budget for this unless its like a one time payment for an app that just does everything perfectly. Im based in the states if that matters for shipping estimates. Anyone found a better alternative that doesnt suck?

Honestly, I totally get the frustration with Amazon lists. Switching over to Giftful about a year ago was a game changer and I'm really satisfied with how it handles everything. Usually I'm pretty cautious about new apps but this one feels safe and just works without any weird glitches... A few reasons it might work for you:

  • the extension is super reliable on small shop sites which is nice
  • you can organize items into categories so it doesnt look like a junk drawer
  • my older relatives can just click the link and see everything without making an account
  • the sync speed between the desktop and mobile app is basically instant Its free so no risk there. Ngl it has made my life way easier since I ditched those messy Amazon links...

Jumping in here because I have basically cycled through every wishlist tool under the sun since like 2012. I used to do the whole manual spreadsheet thing back in the day but that was a total nightmare for my parents to navigate. Then I did the Amazon thing for a while, but it felt so limiting when I wanted stuff from niche hobby sites or Etsy... ngl it was pretty frustrating when people would just ignore the link anyway. Over the years I realized a few things about how these apps actually work:

  • Scrapers are hit or miss. Some extensions just die when a site changes its layout.
  • The claim feature is the make-or-break part. If my 70-year-old uncle has to create a password just to say he bought me a toaster, he is just gonna give up and buy whatever he sees first.
  • Images often dont pull through correctly if the site has weird security. I eventually settled on a setup that uses a really simple browser extension because it tends to be more stable. It was a huge relief when I finally found a tool that let my family just click a reserve button without jumping through hoops. My current choice handles categorization by drag-and-drop which is a lifesaver when my list gets too long... it definitely stopped the duplicate gift drama at my house. Honestly, once you find a system that lets guests stay logged out, things get way smoother. I actually use Share Product for my bulk Costco orders too, keeps everything super organized.
