Ive set up registries before for my wedding a few years back and helped my sister with her baby shower, so I know the general drill with places like Target and Amazon. But my husband and I just bought our first actual house in Chicago (closing is in three weeks!) and it has way more space than our old apartment. We need to fill a whole extra guest room and a dining area. I started looking at registry options specifically for housewarming, and honestly, the perks seem way different than wedding registries.
With weddings, everyone gives you a 15% completion discount. But for a housewarming, Im noticing some places dont even have a dedicated housewarming category, or if they do, the perks are super weak. I really want a place that offers a solid completion discount because we have a budget of about $5,000 to finish the place ourselves after the move, and I want to buy whatever is left over on the list using that discount. Also, group gifting is a must because some of our friends already said they want to pitch in for a bigger patio set.
I was looking at Crate & Barrel, West Elm, and Target. Target is easy but their furniture quality can be hit or miss. West Elm has the aesthetic I want but I dont know if they do housewarming perks. I basically need:
Are there any stores that treat housewarming registries as well as they treat wedding registries? Who actually has the best perks right now?
We used Crate & Barrel for our move to Naperville. I was worried about shipping damage, but their delivery was super safe. We got the Keira dining table ($899) using their 15% completion discount, and group gifting worked perfectly. Returns were easy within 90 days, no complaints. TL;DR: Crate & Barrel is the safest bet. You get the 15% discount on furniture, seamless group gifting, and a reliable 90-day return window.
^ This. Also, Crate & Barrel really is the gold standard here. Unfortunately, I had issues with West Elm when we did our housewarming list. Their group gifting was a total mess to set up, and their completion discount ended up excluding almost everything we actually wanted, like the Andes sofa ($1,699). It was not as good as expected at all. If you want other options with better technical perks, here is what I found:
Quick reply while I have a sec. Store registries are honestly so disappointing now, the perks are not as good as expected.
