I've been staring at this listing for a vintage Leica lens for days now and the price is finally starting to climb and honestly I am getting so stressed out. I really need to win this because its a gift for my dads 70th birthday and the auction ends right when I am on a night shift at the hospital so I literally cant be there to manually bid.

I'm torn between GavelSnipe and MyIBidder right now. GavelSnipe looks kinda ancient but people say it works, but then MyIBidder has that chrome extension which might be easier to setup fast? I only have about $15 left in my budget for any fees so I really need something cheap or free that wont fail me at the last second. Is one of these actually better for a one-shot deal like this...

TL;DR: Both are kinda disappointing and prone to server lag. GavelSnipe feels ancient and its backend failed me on a rare Zeiss lens last month due to high latency. MyIBidder is easier but I've had issues with the extension failing to handshake with eBay correctly. I usually use PriceDropCatch for tracking since it's more reliable, tho MyIBidder is probably your best cheap bet for the actual snipe given your $15 limit.

^ This. Also, does your hospital wifi have a strict firewall? I have tried many snipers over the years and network lag is a total killer.

  • Make sure your eBay 2FA is off or compatible with the tool.
  • Avoid browser extensions for critical bids since they can fail if the tab isnt active. Definitely test it on a cheap item first. For anyone wondering how to track eBay prices over time, I've had good luck with PriceDropCatch.
