So me and my boyfriend are finally moving into our first apartment in Chicago next month and honestly the stress is just through the roof right now. We have like a thousand things we need to buy from basic towels to a new microwave and our budget is super tight since we just dropped a fortune on the security deposit and first month rent. My logic was that we could just use one shared cart so we dont accidentally buy the same thing twice but it is proving to be way harder than it should be. I did some digging online and everyone keeps mentioning Amazon Household but when I actually tried setting it up it seems like it just shares Prime shipping and Prime Video? It doesnt actually show what he has sitting in his cart on my phone. Then I saw some people saying to just share a single login but that feels kinda sketchy with my credit card info saved plus I read that Amazon might flag the account as suspicious if we are both logged in from different devices at the exact same time adding stuff. I really dont want to get locked out right when we need to order the bed frame. Is there like a legit way to have a live cart where we both see the same items in real time? I am so worried we are gonna end up with two blenders and no shower curtain because we arent synced up...
In my experience, sharing a login is a total security risk. I once had my account flagged and frozen for days... was a total mess. Instead, we used the Amazon Registry feature for our move. Just set up a Wedding Registry and add him as a co-registrant in the settings. It syncs perfectly and shows exactly whats been bought so you dont end up with two blenders.
Building on the earlier suggestion, Amazon really dropped the ball by not having a native sync. Unfortunately, even their collaborative lists are super buggy and slow... definitely not as good as expected.
Honestly, I ran into this same wall when I moved last year. Amazon Household is definitely just for sharing benefits, not for cart syncing which is kinda annoying from a technical standpoint. My partner and I ended up using a Shared List. You both add stuff there, it updates in real time, and then one person just moves everything to the cart. It prevents that double-purchase headache without the security risks of sharing one login.
