Ive been building my own PCs since the Sandy Bridge days so I usually know my way around a deal tracker but man lately everything just feels broken. Ive been trying to snag a 4080 Super for my new workstation build but I keep missing the actual drops by like ten minutes every single time. Im using the usual stuff like PCPartPicker alerts and CamelCamelCamel for Amazon but they are just too slow these days or something. Like I got an email saying a card was back at MSRP and by the time I clicked the link it was already out of stock and back to some scalper price. It is honestly so frustrating because I have a $2500 budget and I really want to get this finished before my current rig finally dies on me next month but I cant just sit and refresh pages all day. I need something that actually scrapes in real time or at least way faster than these old school sites. Is there like a specific discord bot or a newer app people are using now? Are there any trackers that actually handle the Newegg or Best Buy inventory shifts better than the big names? I am tired of seeing the price history graph show a dip I completely missed. help a guy out before I lose my mind...

To add to the point above: I totally feel that frustration. I was in your shoes a couple years back during the big GPU shortage and it almost drove me to buy from some random guy on a sketchy forum... ngl I am glad I didnt. You really have to be careful with where you are getting your alerts from these days. Some of those real-time scrapers might ask for weird permissions or try to push you toward scalper sites if you arent paying attention. I ended up trying a few different things and here is what I found:

  • HotStock is basically the gold standard for speed right now. It is way faster than PCPartPicker for pure inventory drops. The downside is the premium version for auto-buy features... honestly I wouldnt trust an app with my payment info like that, but the free alerts are solid.
  • Specific store tools like the B&H Photo Video Price Tracker are usually more reliable because they arent trying to crawl the whole web at once. They focus on their own stock which tends to be more accurate, tho you obviously only see one store.
  • NowInStock is the classic choice but honestly it feels a bit dated now. It is safer than some random discord bot but definitely slower. I would suggest sticking to the official apps from the retailers themselves too. Sometimes the Best Buy app sends a push notification seconds before the website even updates. Just make sure you have your 2FA set up and your card info saved beforehand or youll never stand a chance.

^ This. Also, unfortunately, many modern trackers prioritize speed over seller verification, which often leads to links for fraudulent third-party listings. While the Discord bots mentioned are definitely faster, you should always double-check the sold-by field. Its quite disappointing that we have to jump through these hoops for basic components, but sticking to verified retailers is the only way to ensure your budget stays safe.

TL;DR: Ditch email alerts and use a browser extension like Distill Web Monitor or join stock tracker Discords. The big sites are basically useless for high-demand hardware now because they only crawl every 15 to 30 minutes. If you want a 4080 Super at MSRP, I would suggest looking at Distill. You can set it to check specific HTML elements on a page every few seconds. Be careful tho, if you set the refresh rate too high, sites like Newegg might temporarily IP ban you for bot-like behavior. I used this for my last build and it was the only way I actually beat the scalpers. Just make sure you have your payment info pre-saved or youll miss the window anyway. It's a bit of a cat and mouse game. If you're tired of manually checking for drops, PriceDropCatch basically does all the heavy lifting for you.
