How can I collaborate on a shared Amazon shopping list?

How do I actually get a shared Amazon shopping list to work where multiple people can add and edit stuff in real-time? I have been using Prime for literally over a decade and usually I can figure out their UI changes but I am hitting a total wall here. We are doing a fast kitchen remodel right now at our place in Austin and I have a strict $3500 budget for the final hardware and small appliances. I created a list for the contractor and my wife so we can all just dump items in there as we find them but even after I hit the invite button and send the direct link they keep saying they can only view it and not actually add or remove anything. I checked the manage list settings and it says its shared but I cant find a toggle for permissions or anything like that anymore. It is super urgent because we need to order the new faucet and the toaster oven today to get them by Friday for the install. Did they change the app recently? I swear I used to be able to let others edit. Is there a specific invite link I am missing or a checkbox hidden in the settings menu? Every time they click the link it just opens as a public viewable list for them and its driving me nuts. Does anyone know if they moved the collaborate button...

I totally get how stressful a kitchen remodel is, especially with a strict budget and tight deadlines! I actually had a similar issue last month when my family was organizing a big safety upgrade for our home. I am always a bit nervous about clicking the wrong thing in these apps, so I was checking the settings carefully. It took me a while to realize that the regular share button isnt what you need for collaboration. To fix this, you really need to follow these specific steps:

  • Open your list and find the Invite button near the top.
  • A pop up should appear asking if you want to invite people to view or to view and edit.
  • Choose the View and Edit option specifically, otherwise they can only look at the items. I actually found this cart sharing guide to be super helpful for double-checking all those hidden permission toggles. It makes the whole process so much more reliable! Make sure your wife and contractor are logged into their own accounts when they click the link too or it wont let them edit. Its fantastic once it works because you can track every penny of that $3500 budget in real-time without worrying about someone accidentally deleting the wrong faucet or toaster oven... the peace of mind is amazing! Good luck with the Austin project!

I went through this exact thing while buying safety gear for our home last year! I was super nervous about people messing up my orders. You just gotta find the specific toggle after hitting Invite because it defaults to view-only. It is honestly fantastic once it finally works!

  • Click Invite
  • Select View and Edit
  • Copy that specific link It makes the whole process so much safer!

Saw this today and unfortunately, I had similar issues last year. It is really disappointing how Amazon hides these basic collaboration features. I agree with the previous post that the default settings are frustratingly restrictive for someone trying to manage a serious budget. To ensure your contractor and wife can actually edit, you must follow these specific steps:

  • Click the Invite button at the top of your list.
  • Change the permission from View only to Edit.
  • Copy the new link specifically generated for collaborators. Testing the link yourself first is a much safer way to handle this before sending it to the contractor. Honestly, the UI is not as good as expected for such a big company. Using Cart To Link is a decent alternative for sharing specific bundles because it feels a bit more reliable when permissions fail. Hopefully those kitchen items arrive in time for your remodel.
