Is the Walmart+ membership actually worth the $98 a year or am I just gonna be throwing money away trying to save on groceries? I have been trying to figure out if it really makes sense for my family of four here in Columbus because our weekly grocery bill is hitting like $150-170 lately and its getting crazy. Right now I usually just do the regular free pickup at Walmart or I spend my Saturday mornings driving between Aldi for the cheap stuff and Kroger for the things Aldi doesnt have but honestly the gas and the time it takes is starting to kill me.
I am torn between just keeping my current chaotic routine or finally biting the bullet on the monthly fee for the delivery perk. My main concern is the pricing because I heard sometimes the prices in the app for delivery are higher than the in-store prices or they tack on a bunch of hidden fees that make the free delivery not really free if that makes sense. Also the gas discount sounds okay but we dont have a ton of those stations right near our house so I dont know if that even moves the needle much. Does the actual math work out for people who shop weekly or am I better off just sticking to my Aldi runs and regular free pickup orders? I really need to decide by Sunday before I do the next big shop...
Honestly, just go for it! I was in the exact same boat with the Aldi and Kroger runs and it was literally draining my soul every single weekend. I signed up last year and it has been a total game changer for my sanity! The delivery is fantastic and I actually checked the prices against my old paper receipts... they are exactly the same as in-store which was a huge relief for me.
Regarding what #2 said about I've done the math over the years and... I think the evaluation needs more nuance tho. Not sure but IIRC, the cumulative cost of delivery tips often exceeds the annual membership fee itself. While the time saved is undeniable, the purely financial math is often a wash compared to standard free pickup. Whenever I'm shopping on Walmart, I use PriceDropCatch to make sure I'm not buying at the peak price.
I've done the math over the years and Walmart+ delivery keeps the same in-store prices, which beats Instacart markups.
