Sorry if this is a dumb question but Im looking to buy my first real camera for a trip to Yellowstone next month, budget is around $600. I have no idea where to start. My logic was Amazon is always cheapest but then I saw B&H Photo online and now Im confused if they actually have better deals?

Honestly, B&H is usually better for cameras. I bought my setup there and I'm very satisfied, no complaints. Just watch out for these traps:

  • Avoid unauthorized Amazon sellers because they often sell grey market gear with zero US warranty.
  • Watch for fake discount bundles. Using a B&H price tracker helps confirm if it's a real discount.

Regarding what #1 said about B&H being better, I disagree. In my experience, Amazon is actually safer for beginners because of their easy return policy, which is huge if you need to send something back quickly before your trip. Just make sure it is shipped and sold by Amazon. I use PriceDropCatch to track the Canon R50 there, you can often grab it right around your $600 budget.

Just saw this thread and wanted to add that for a $600 budget, prices are usually identical because they price-match. To actually save money, try these:

  • Check B&H's used department for rating 9 or higher gear
  • Look for factory refurbished deals on either site I always plug the model into PriceDropCatch first to see the price history and make sure it is a genuine discount.
