Honestly so fed up with this LP-E17 battery in my new R10 it literally died on me after like an hour of shooting at the park today and I have a cousins backyard wedding this Saturday that I'm supposed to shoot and I'm panicking because I cant have the camera dying every 200 shots. The official Canon ones are like 60 bucks each which is insane for such a small capacity so I need alternatives that actually work and wont give me that annoying warning on the screen.

  • need them by Friday (Amazon prime?)
  • under 70 bucks for a pair if possible
  • must show battery percentage
  • charger included would be nice

What brands are actually reliable nowadays because I've heard Wasabi or Neewer can be hit or miss...

I totally feel your pain with that LP-E17... it's such a tiny battery for a camera that does so much. I've been shooting for a bit now and honestly the R10 is a total power hog compared to the older DSLRs. You gotta be really careful with third-party stuff tho because Canon puts these chips in the batteries to block off-brand ones. I would suggest looking at BM Premium LP-E17 2-Pack High Capacity Batteries with Dual USB Charger because they usually communicate okay with the camera. Just a heads up tho, some batches still might give you that genuine battery prompt and you have to click through it. It is annoying but it works and usually shows the percentage fine. Also, make sure to use the charger they come with because the official Canon one usually refuses to touch anything that isnt original. For a wedding, definitely grab a pair... better safe than sorry ngl.

I've been down this road too many times with my older R-series bodies. There was this one local festival I shot where I thought I was being smart by saving money on generic packs. Halfway through the main stage act, my screen just went black with zero warning because the battery didnt communicate with the camera... total disaster. Over the years, I've learned that if you want that percentage display without the communication error pop-up, you have to look for fully decoded chips specifically. I actually picked up the BM Premium LP-E17 Fully Decoded Battery 2-Pack for my backup body and they've been surprisingly solid for the price. They show the levels perfectly on my screen. Another one that people in my circle swear by is the SmallRig LP-E17 Camera Battery 2-Pack with Charger since they're usually pretty reliable with the chip compatibility. Quick tip: Toggle on Airplane Mode if you arent using the app. It will buy you at least another 40 or 50 shots per charge tho.
