Taking my R6 II to NYC next month and need a dedicated street lens. I read the 35mm 1.8 is the gold standard but others swear by the 28mm pancake for staying stealthy.
Im worried the 28 is gonna be too wide. What is the best street photography lens for Canon EOS R6 Mark II?
Ive tried many setups over the years for street work and honestly, the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM is the one I always go back to. Going too wide with a 28mm usually means you have to get uncomfortably close to people to get a decent shot, which can be risky in a place like NYC if you arent careful. In my experience, the 35mm focal length is way more versatile for someone who wants to keep a bit of distance while still capturing the environment. Plus, the image stabilization on that specific lens is a lifesaver when the light starts dropping between those tall buildings. Stick with the 35mm... its a reliable choice that wont leave you wishing you had more reach. One quick tip tho: always keep your lens hood on. It protects the glass from accidental bumps in crowded subways much better than a thin filter ever will.
