Okay so I finally did it and bought the Canon R5 Mark II and honestly I am so excited but also totally terrified because I have no idea what I am doing haha. I basically just wanted the best camera possible for my big trip to Japan in three weeks but now that I have the camera body I realized it doesn't actually come with a lens?? I know that sounds so stupid but I thought it would just be ready to go like my phone is or my old point and shoot. My budget is pretty tight now after spending so much on the actual camera so I probably have like $1,500 maybe $2,000 max left to spend on one lens and I really just want something that can do everything because I dont want to be carrying around a big heavy bag of gear while I am walking through Tokyo and Kyoto.

I dont want to be switching things out and getting dust inside the sensor thingy because I heard that ruins your pictures. I want to take pictures of the big shrines and the neon lights at night and maybe some cool close ups of the ramen and sushi we eat. Someone told me to get a 24-70 but then someone else said a 24-105 is better for traveling because it goes further? And then I saw something about a 35mm prime but I dont even know what prime means... does that mean it doesnt zoom? That sounds really hard to use if I cant zoom in on stuff across the street.

I'm just looking for that one holy grail lens that I can just leave on the camera for the whole trip and get professional looking shots even though I'm a total beginner who is still reading the manual. I'm worried about the low light stuff too since we will be out late in Shinjuku and I want those blurry backgrounds people always have in fancy portraits. What is the best all around lens that I should get that covers all my bases so I dont have to buy anything else for a long time?

Unfortunately, I had issues with the 24-105mm and it wasnt as good as expected for night stuff. If you want one lens for Japan, try to find a deal on the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM. It fits your needs way better for those neon shots in Shinjuku. The f/4 version is kinda disappointing for blurry backgrounds, tbh. You wont regret the upgrade.
