im so frustrated with this camera and my hand keeps cramping up. i just got the canon r5 mark ii for my cousins wedding in seattle next month but its so small. i heard i need a battery grip but i have no idea where to start or what fits this specific model. i dont want to break anything but the official stuff is so pricey.

here is what i need:

  • budget is around $350 max
  • needs to make vertical shooting easier
  • simple to install because im clueless
  • wont fry the battery or the camera

do i have to buy the canon brand one or are there cheaper options that actually work good...

To add to the point above: what lens are you lugging around? If its a heavy zoom, no wonder your hand is cramping. Unfortunately, finding a reliable budget grip for the Mark II is a headache. I had issues with the Neewer Vertical Battery Grip for R5 R6 feeling kinda cheap and loose. It makes vertical shots easier, but honestly, it just isnt as solid as the official stuff... especially for a wedding where you cant afford a failure.

I learned the hard way with a cheap knockoff on my old setup that actually melted a contact pin... terrifying. For your R5 II, you might want to consider sticking with the Canon BG-R20 Battery Grip for now. It hits your $350 budget almost exactly. Be careful with third-party brands this early because they can sometimes mess with the newer battery authentication or high-speed modes.
