  • budget under 80
  • handles 4K
  • reliable for long takes

what are you guys actually using that wont fail?

Re: "Look, you gotta focus on sustained write speeds,..."

  • Spot on. Im really satisfied with the Samsung PRO Plus 128GB SDXC UHS-I V30 lately. It handles 130MB/s write speeds consistently and works well for long 4K takes without the price hike of other brands. Quick tip tho, always do a low-level format in the camera menu before every shoot. It keeps the file system clean so you dont get those annoying errors.

Look, you gotta focus on sustained write speeds, not marketing numbers. 90D needs V30 minimum for 4K, but V60 is way better for long takes to keep the buffer clear.

Man, that Chicago wedding story brought back some bad memories for me... I've been there and it is basically a nightmare scenario. I've been shooting with Canon bodies for a decade and if there is one thing I've learned, it is that the 90D is super picky about the buffer. In my experience, you really can't go wrong if you just stick to the top-tier SanDisk SD Cards lineup. Over the years, I've tried many different brands trying to save a buck, but I always end up going back to them because they just work. Honestly, just get any of the high-speed cards from SanDisk or maybe Sony SD Cards if you're feeling fancy. You want to look for that V30 or V60 rating on the front of the card. As long as it has that, it should handle the 4K bitrate on the 90D without breaking a sweat. I've done long takes for interviews that lasted over an hour and never had an issue with those brands. Ngl, it's worth spending the extra few dollars for the peace of mind. Just dont cheap out on those weird generic brands you see on sale, they're never worth the risk and wont hold up during a big gig. Definitely reach out if you want to chat more about setup stuff, I'm always down to share what I've learned from my own trial and error.
