I just got the new Canon R5 II for my kids soccer games and honestly Im so excited but its a bit small for my hands and i heard these battery thingies help?? I think they're called vertical grips or something. Im a total beginner so sorry if this is a silly question but i have no clue which one to buy since the camera was already so expensive. I need it by next weekend for a tournament here in Austin and I'm totally lost.

  • under 400 bucks if possible
  • makes the camera easier to hold sideways
  • lasts a long time for all day games

Do I have to buy the Canon brand one or are the cheaper ones okay?? I dont want to break my new camera lol.

Omg you are going to love that camera! I just got mine and its honestly amazing for sports. Since the R5 II is so new, you really should stick with the Canon BG-R20 Battery Grip for EOS R5 Mark II right now. It fits your budget perfectly at about 350 bucks and it makes those vertical shots for soccer so much easier to handle!!

  • It holds two batteries so you can shoot all day without worrying
  • The buttons on the side match the ones on the top
  • It feels way more solid in your hand especially with bigger lenses I totally get being nervous about breaking it, so going with the official Canon one is definitely the way to go for peace of mind. Youre gonna have a blast at the tournament in Austin next weekend! Let me know if you need help figuring out the settings for the kids games too!

^ This. Also, if you want a cheaper route, just grab a SmallRig L-Bracket for Canon EOS R5 Mark II and an extra Canon LP-E6P Lithium-Ion Battery Pack. It makes the body taller and way easier to hold for those long games!

  • Way cheaper than 400 bucks
  • Fixes the small grip issue
  • Extra juice for soccer It wont have the vertical shutter button, but its a fantastic budget fix for next weekend. Youll love the extra stability!

I totally agree about sticking to official gear for this! Honestly, the technical internals are huge because the R5 II has a specific cooling design. Third-party versions often lack the proper thermal management for those high-speed bursts... it can cause overheating mid-game. Plus, the weather sealing is fantastic for those dusty or humid Texas afternoons! You wont regret the extra stability.
